AccessMost visitors access Chiiori by road from Awa-Ikeda or Oboke. While access is the responsibility of the visitor, the Chiiori team is here with help and advise. Visitors can use the express train timetables below to reach JR Awa-Ikeda Station or JR Oboke Station from the surrounding urban areas. 
When accessing Chiiori via Awa-Ikeda, visitors have 2 bus options. The most scenic bus runs along old Rt. 32, carved from the steep cliffs of a dizzying river valley, along the path of the original, secret Heike road. The other, faster bus route, goes from Awa-Ikeda, via Oboke, and can be accessed, either from Awa-Ikeda Bus Station or in front of JR Oboke Station. Please consult the bus timetables below as the buses do not run regularly. When accessing Chiiori by bus from Awa-Ikeda Bus Station or JR Oboke Station, passengers must tell the bus driver to stop at Oshima Station after boarding the bus. Buses do not usually stop at Oshima Tunnel unless asked. From Oshima Tunnel stop, visitors need to cross the bridge in the direction from which they came and follow the wooden sign that says Chiiori up the mountain road to the left. A 7km walk up the mountain road will bring visitors to the Chiiori parking lot on the right. Please be aware that this walk is strenuous for beginner hikers, especially those with heavy bags. 
Down the hill from the parking lot, visitors can find Chiiori's unique thatched-roof behind a grove of chesnut trees. Follow the path marked by signs down to Chiiori. 
Many visitors also access Chiiori by taxi from JR Oboke Station. This is perhaps the easiest way to reach Chiiori, as all the local taxis know the way to Chiiori, and there are usually taxis waiting in front of JR Oboke Station until 8pm. Just tell the taxi driver "Chiiori onegaishimasu." The taxi fare from JR Oboke Station to Chiiori takes about 45 minutes, and costs about ¥5,500. As public transportation around Iya Valley is scarce, many visitors often rent a car so that they can visit all the sights at their leisure. Car rental is available in Awa-Ikeda, with car drop-off service at the station. Please consult the map below to reach Chiiori by car from Awa-Ikeda, Tokushima, or Takamatsu (via Rt. 32).
