Alex Kerr is working with Felissimo Co of Kobe to create a line of traditional mamesara ceramics, and as part of this project, Felissimo has set up a fund to support groups trying to preserve and develop traditional living culture around Japan. The proceeds from the first year will go to Chiiori. Click on these links for information on mamesara and the traditional culture fund.

Chiiori Trust is a non-profit foundation dedicated to the revitalization of Japan's rural regions through sustainable tourism and agriculture.

The Trust centers on Chiiori, a 300-year-old thatch-roof farmhouse in Japan's Iya Valley, purchased in 1973 by writer Alex Kerr. We invite you to explore our site, visit Iya Valley and experience mountain life at Chiiori and its surroundings.

Please become a Friend of Chiiori, and join us in our efforts to restore Chiiori and revive rural communities in Iya and across Japan.
